On January 10,2022, Salt Lake Acting Company (SLAC) unveiled the newest set of writers for #SLACabaret 2022 – SLAC’s “fresh take on the Beehive State.” The team is headed by Olivia Custodio (who appeared as Caren in last year’s production) and she is joined by Michael Leavitt (Music Director of Saturday’s Voyeur and #SLACabaret 2021) and SLAC newcomer Emilio Casillas.
“#SLACabaret has breathed new life into Salt Lake Acting Company. We’re so grateful to the 2021 writing team for propelling us into a new, more equitable era of musical parody,” says Executive Artistic Director Cynthia Fleming. “We’re also excited to continue to usher in exciting new voices with an all-new team for 2022, who are sure to keep our audiences entertained.”
Front Row Reviewers has been a big fan of SLAC for years. Here are the reviews we’ve done: Four Women Talking About the Man Under the Sheet, A Doll’s House, Part 2, ALABASTER, Form of a Girl Unknown, American Dreams, Death of a Driver, Saturday’s Voyeur (2017), Saturday’s Voyeur (2018), Saturday’s Voyeur (2019), Fun Home, The Exit Interview, Surely Goodness and Mercy, and Mercury
And their darling, kid-friendly productions that help children understand and enjoy live theater: Pete the Cat, Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!”.
We love Salt Lake Acting Company for their fierce and compassionate dedication to bringing important productions to Utah. Since the worldwide pandemic of Covid-19, SLAC has pioneered another forward thinking option for theater goers, and we couldn’t be more grateful. From Joshua Black, Director of Marketing & Communications: “I believe SLAC has one of the strictest Covid safety policies of any arts organization in Utah. I know we were the first arts organization to require proof of vaccination from our audiences.”
- Everyone (artists, staff, audience) must show proof of full vaccination (now including booster) to even enter the building.
- We are governed by Actors Equity guidelines for rehearsals and performances.
- Everyone is tested regularly. There is even a Covid safety officer hired for each production who is on hand at all times to ensure everyone is abiding by AEA guidelines. The Covid safety officer can also administer rapid tests onsite.
- The admin staff all works remotely and has since March 2020. All of our meetings are held via Zoom.
- Audience members must show proof of full vaccination and remain masked during performances.
- We’ve also been filming our productions (starting with last summer’s #SLACabaret and continuing with Four Women Talking About the Man Under the Sheet and Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!”) so that people can enjoy from the comfort of their own homes.
- Here are our COVID-19 guidelines for patrons as stated on our website.
We are excited to support SLAC, as Front Row Reviewers moves forward, navigating through the continuing pandemic and beyond. Thank you, SLAC! We are honored to support you.
