Centerville’s Centerpoint Legacy Theatre has once again created a unique and engaging experience in their latest production, Peter and the Starcatcher, which runs through February 15th. The show, written by Rick Elice and Wayne Barker and based off the best-selling novels by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, tells the story of how Peter Pan, the Lost Boys, Captain Hook, and even Tinkerbell got their grand beginning. The show premiered at La Jolla Playhouse in 2009 and ran on Broadway from April 2012 to January 2013 and won five Tony awards.

The show follows the journey of Molly Aster (Kate Williams) and her father Leonard (Jason Wadsworth) and their mission as starcatchers to protect a chestful of starstuff from a band of adorably gruff pirates. Unwillingly brought along on the adventure are the Boy (Liam Hunsaker) and his fellow orphans, Prentiss (Nathan Nield) and Ted (Walter Inkley), who join Molly on the ship The Neverland, while her father is held captive on The Wasp by the crew of pirates led by the ever-rambunctious Smee (Aaron Linford) and the charmingly flamboyant and enthusiastic Captain Black Stache (Josh Curtis). The plot follows cast through a thrilling battle on the high seas and a shipwreck leading them to Mollusk Island.,

The true charm of this production lies in the obvious joy emanating from the cast. Even in the darker and more serious moments of the story, the actors have a palpable passion for their work that translates into excellent storytelling that keeps the audience engaged and on the edge of their seat. The quirky humor, most perfectly embodied by Curtis’s charming and colorful Black Stache, transforms the show into an immersive adventure for audience members.

Not to be outshone is Hunsaker’s portrayal as the Boy. His is an emotional and layered performance that brings a new level of depth to the beloved children’s character of Peter Pan.

The production is expertly crafted under the direction of Liz Christensen and musical direction of Anthony Buck.It makes use of an ingeniously simple set, designed by Bryan Christensen, and the clever lighting and sound designs by William Peterson and Jay M. Clark. The fascinating costumes are provided under the direction of Nita Smith and Jeana Forthman.

Peter and the Starcatcher, presented by Centerville’s Centerpoint Legacy Theatre, is a thrilling and hilarious adventure for all ages. Brought to life with an incredible technical team and inspired director, this story will bring joy and nostalgia to anyone who loves the classic tale of Peter Pan. Be sure to catch this magical production before it closes on February 15th.
