If you are an aspiring playwright or an actor that can pick up a script and make the role sparkle on the fly, check out Utah New Works Theatre Project‘s Open Mics in Provo. In fact, this up and coming company is doing a lot of fun things–so check them out.

Last November, they did a 10-minute play contest, New Works Ten, that was super fun and displayed a variety of genres and many, many actors. Last night, UNWTP had an Open Mic V and four 10-minute plays were given a improv staged reading. It was lots of fun. Some people came to just observe, but most of us had at least one opportunity to also read.

It’s amazing what people can do–the writers–in ten minutes. A whole, perfect, fleshed out tiny piece of life. It’s amazing what eager performers can do–take a flat piece of white paper with some words on it, stand in a line with friends and strangers alike, and act out these plays.

Is it professional? No. Is it satisfying? Yes, times ten. Is it fun? Yes, times a hundred. And it was also free!

Utah New Works Theatre Project is bringing great opportunities to the Arts in Provo, Utah. They have lots of activities–something every month! All their activities are free and well worth investing your time to attend and become immersed in their wonderful devotion to the Arts.
