Thriller, a unique dance performance from Odyssey Dance Theater, is a creative and slightly gruesome ode to all things creepy, scary, and downright disturbing. If you’re looking for something fun to help you get into the spirit of Halloween, check out Thriller at the Egyptian Theater in Historic Park City. But note that this show is not for the very young or the faint of heart. This show is definitely a dark comedy with plenty of spooky moments that might not be appropriate for all ages.

Each dance number pays tribute to your favorite Halloween movies and characters, including The Grudge, Frankenstein, Curse of the Mummy, and Children of the Corn. The dancing is top-notch, without question, but what really makes this show exceptional is the combination of all the theatrical elements together. The lighting, sound, and special effects by Technical Director Kyle Baumann all complement the sensational costuming by Cheryl Yeager and terrific make-up. The visual elements in this show are truly stunning.

Thriller by Odyssey Dance Theater in Park City

The dancers of Odyssey Dance Theater put the word perform in performance. In fact, it is an injustice to simply call them dancers. This cast of incredible entertainers will blow you away with their humor, character, and storytelling with the perfect combination of artistry and technicality. The people of Utah are lucky to have a dance troupe of this caliber in their state.

The best performance of the night came from Brandon Glass and Rachel Perry as Frankenstein and Frankenstein’s bride. Audience members were enthralled by the equally sad and hilarious number (choreographed by Derryl Yeager) which stays in your mind long after the night is over. Perry also dances in a classic ballet scene of The Nutcracker – until she is shot and dragged off stage. She is an outstanding performer and I hope to see a lot more of her on Utah’s stages in the years to come.

Some scenes suffer from being slightly too lengthy and a few of the numbers are downright dark – and I mean dark. However, Thriller is a celebration of the macabre and an unforgettable experience. From the zombies who jump out at you when you arrive at the theater to the sassy and hilarious Bubbles the Clown who interacts with the audience between dance numbers, the characters of Thriller will certainly leave an impression and get you in that spooky Halloween mood.
