The Great Christmas Adventure in Heber is a sweet indoor winter playland that is a perfectly memorable outing for families with young children. I took my family with three little boys between the ages of 3 and 5 (nearly 6). They enjoyed playing on a kiddie wintry playscape, building pillowy snowmen, and throwing cloth snowballs that magically crunch like snow when you squeeze them. The local teenagers staffing the area were dressed beautifully as elves and were bright and cheerful with my children – encouraging them to play. When asked they had names like “Perky”, “Larry” and “Bubbles”. They were happy to pose for pictures and help out the kids. There was a beautifully painted Christmas train that the kids could climb on, projectors playing colorful pieces of Christmas movies or scenery. Christmas trees all around. We found a station to write letters to Santa and put them in his mailbox – a helpful elf even helped one of my sons write his letter. While we were there, Mrs. Claus held an intimate storytime that staff alerted my kids to – though they chose to continue their free play instead. Park benches for adults were a welcome resting spot to watch the kids play. Hot chocolate with your choice of mix-ins was a charming detail in this section of the “Adventure” as well. Sprinkles were popular with my kids.

Then we moved on into Santa Elves’ Workshop with more picture-perfect vignettes. There were workbenches with wooden nails and hammers and other tools, and a wooden kitchen stand mixers, cookies, frosting, and kitchenette. My boys enjoyed velcro-ing the frosting onto sheets of sugar cookies. While we were there, the local Swiss Bell Choir performed several beautiful sets of Christmas music on the stage in this area that could be heard throughout the Christmas Adventure. There may be other surprise musical guests on other days.
As you finish your playtime, you move on to the final portion of the Christmas Adventure… walking past lighted windows with Christmas vignettes including one with a nativity scene. As you enter a separate room, you grab a wrapped present to take with you to the North Pole and then climb aboard a sleigh ride to end the evening. Set up on pneumatics like
Star Tours at Disneyland, your family climbs aboard and flies high into the sky – even at one point running across Santa in his sleigh pulled by the famous reindeer – before heading earthward once again. As you exit an elf pulls aside a dark curtain for the final reveal of the night – a very special Christmas visitor and his wife seated before a firelight scene perfect for taking some pictures. My kids found them to be a very welcoming Santa and Mrs. Claus and were happy to visit with them. They also enjoyed placing their “gifts” on a conveyor belt to be sent back behind the curtain. My three-year-old even said that was his favorite part… boys and machines!
Overall, a sweet little Christmas experience that would be especially impactful for those 9 and under, I would think. We were showered with lots of personalized attention and plenty of space to play, though I would think the crowds for this attraction are likely to swell on more popular days and times – it will likely never get as crowded as something similar in Utah or Salt Lake County which makes it a more quaint and homey experience. The lights on Heber’s small-town Main Street on the way into town are darling, and it makes a nice little escape for mom and dad too from the bustle of the more populated valleys or hectic Christmas schedules. Many local restaurants have excellent fare for any palette if you want to make a full evening of it! Parking is quite plentiful near the venue and the building is handicap accessible.
My children and I loved the The Great Christmas Adventure in Heber. Consider making it a part of your holiday merriment this year!
