This week is the premier of the new hit mystery musical, Sincerely, Antonio Marcus. It starts out in a jail where Chester (Garion Jorgensen) is just being released after serving two years, framed for embezzlement at his previous employment. He goes off looking for a new job, but no one wants his expertise after seeing that he has a record. Luckily, his best friend, Marty, played by Landon Christensen, helps him out by sending him to Walt Walters (Matthias Hilmo) at the local book shop. Walters hires Chester on the spot and he begins to work alongside book-lover, Maribeth, played by Jenna Snow. When she finds out he was just released from jail and why, she is enthralled by the idea of being in a real-life mystery and decides to help crack the case of who framed Chester. Along the way they find some unsavory characters and their lives are put in danger as they come closer to the truth.

Jorgensen as Chester does a wonderful job bringing in the true emotions of the story. His acting, along with excellent vocal skills, pull you in as you laugh, cry, and feel all the feels, getting sucked into the story playing out in front of you. Christensen’s Marty shows this actor’s true talent in expressing his emotions and captivating vocals throughout. Hilmo as Walt Walters will surprise you with his convincing character portrayal and classy hair-do. Then, when Chelsea Lynn Tramell (Barbara) steps onto the stage, she brings a presence the audience loves. Both riotous laughter and painful tears are seen in the audience by her performance. Not to mention her beautifully unique vocals that never miss a note.

Of course, what is a good musical mystery without a little romance? That’s where Maribeth comes in. Not only is there great chemistry between Snow and Jorgensen, but their voices blend well with delightful harmony. Snow has the confidence to portray her character perfectly, from shy book nerd to brave detective. And throughout the changing emotions of the show, one constant is Mrs. Perkins, played by Ruthie Cobb. She is an eccentric, hilarious old woman that is always interrupting and putting her nose into the lives of others. Even when she is in the background of a scene, Cobb makes audience members laugh out loud with her old lady antics.

In a small, talented cast, Tyler Woods (Judy, Thug), Jashub Young (Joe, Rick, Hoffman, Ensemble), Kelly Harpand (Warden, Ruthann, Newspaper Woman), and Elizabeth Williams (Waitress, Annie, Police) play their many roles beautifully, making quick dress and character changes throughout the show. Even so, their singing voices never falter as they dance and run around onstage. The entire ensemble is amazing.

All of this is thanks to Elizabeth Adams who is the Writer, Producer, and Stage Manager. When she won last year’s short play contest at the Angelus Theater in Spanish Fork, no one could have guessed the great production that would be put on just a year later. With the help of Composer and Lyricist Greg Goddard, this entertaining play was then turned into a masterful musical. Of course, nothing would be the same without Director and Choreographer Krista Johannesmeyer, who adds to the overall production with creativity and precision. Set designer Cobb and Music Director Alyssa Garn provide the added details behind the scenes to help make Sincerely, Antonio Marcus, a true success.

Come and have an entertaining evening of song, dance, mystery at romance in Spanish Fork!
