Interactive, Romantic, Witty and Hilarious Twelfth Night by Grassroots Shakespeare Company at the SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem

Twelfth Night by Grassroots Shakespeare Company at SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem, Utah is a fabulous rendition of a well beloved Shakespeare comedy. Keeping with traditions of Elizabethan theater they had less than forty hours of rehearsal, the actors provided their own costumes and the audience had ample opportunities to participate. Booing, cheering throughout, answering questions, telling the characters what to do and encouraging them was all part of the incredible experience of GSC’s Twelfth Night. The also perform great pre-show and intermission entertainment which adds so much to how great this production is.

Jasmine Dawn Fullmer as Olivia gives so much to her role through interacting with the audience well and also playing her part when she needs to be more grounded and over the top very well. Her naturalization shines through in how she transforms into her character. Maren Lethbridge as Viola holds nothing back as she plays the versatile role as her character must work through various situations and is caught in the mayhem of the misunderstandings of other characters. Both their chemistry and strong acting dynamics work very well together and with the other cast members.

 Seven Harrison as Sebastian/ Officer delivers phenomenally by portraying the wit and comedy of his character in clever ways. Ryan Hopkins as Antonio performs very well throughout with his delivery and playing the most grounded character of the story while also doing great comedy. Katie Bennion as Maria/Officer/Valentine/Priest seamlessly plays all her roles fantastically. Through delivery, mannerisms, and expression, it’s wonderful to see how versatile she is with her various roles.

 Steven Pond as Malvolio gives wonderful comedic timing and levels of comedy to give a hilarious and well-balanced approach to his character, which adds a lot to the show. Soren Paul Budge as Toby Belch does a wonderful job with making his character hilarious while also being very natural, which makes it even more funny with how believable his mannerisms and actions are.

Chelsea Mortensen as Feste the Clown/Curio adds so much to the show with her roles. Her clever use of modern music, instruments, and dancing makes her a stand out to the already delightfully funny performances and story. Her portrayal of her character works very well with all the various entanglements and situations her character is involved in. Brandon Bills as Orsino delivers his character phenomenally with being one of the more down to earth characters but giving great delivery to his confusion and with his romantic pursuits. His character gives good grounding to the show but also adds to the hilariousness of the confusion and plotting throughout the story.

Drake Hansen as Sir Andrew is hilarious and his over the top performances is just what his character needs to show how ridiculously mischievous his character is in the best way. His performance adds so much to the story and leaves you wondering how he will top his next scene with how funny he has been in the previous one, but he delivers continually throughout. Alyssa Tanner as Fabian/Captain brings so much to her role with her great timing of delivery, vibrant energy, and commanding stage presence. She adds so many elements with being part of the trio looking to cause misunderstandings and her delightful approach to comedic timing pays off wonderfully.

Addison Radle as the auxiliary musicianand Gary Argyle as the guitarist are a fantastic addition to the show. The guitar music makes you are right there with the characters. The auxiliary provides sound effects, cues, and additional expressions of realizations and jokes, adding so much to the creativity and humor of the show. All the instruments are played by hand and the clever assortment of sounds, bells, whistles, and noise makers give a great level of hilarity to the already funny show and the comedic timing and talent of the actors.  Choreographer Nicole Allen brings so much to the show with the whole cast doing a dance at the end, which is very lively and a perfect fitting to all the great comedy in the show.

Twelfth Night by Grassroots Shakespeare Company at the SCERA in Orem, Utah is a wonderful show that is well worth your time. It is unlike any theater experience you will have, with great audience interaction and the energy and talent of the actors. This show is a great family event for everyone who attends.
