The first Friday of the month, July 5th, once again brought impressive crowds to the streets of downtown Provo for the monthly Rooftop Concert Series. This concert’s new set of artists created quite the magnificent summer scene, the event coinciding perfectly with Freedom Festival Independence Day festivities . Once again, families and friends from all backgrounds and ages jammed out to the concert while also exploring the shops of Downtown Provo.

Desert Noises is a band hailing from Provo that consist of Kyle Henderson (vocals, guitar), Tyler Osmond (bass, vocals), Brennan Allen (drums), and Pat Boyer (guitar). Their music is true to the band name; their songs have unique acoustic sounds that feel like taking an exploration through a beautiful desert.  Paul Jacobsen and the Madison Arm also rocked onstage with their fantastic beats. Their music is a mixture of calm acoustic and folk rock, engaging the audience with their energetic stage presence while the lighting effects onstage electrified the night. The night of all-star performers continued with Joshua James and his band. His music is known as folk, and his artistic sound is like a fresh breath to the soul. Each artists’ music can be found on music platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.

The Freedom Festival is a four-day festival surrounding Independence Day. With booths that hold anything from clothing to custard to carvings, in addition to carnival rides, this festival has products for all to enjoy.

As I watched the performers of the Rooftop Concert Series this time, I stood atop the parking garage rooftop where this event originated. In awe, I listened to the fantastic original sounds of Paul Jacobsen and the Madison Arm, imagining my older brothers attending the concerts when they started on the parking garage rooftop with bands like Imagine Dragons. I was impressed with how the event has grown. The series only has two more dates before it comes to an end, and anyone who has a chance should participate in celebrating this special Provo treat.
