Reinventing Power by the Sierra Club is a cinematic exploration of sustainable energy throughout the United States. Produced by the Sierra Club and directed by Tony Valentino, this 2018 documentary is currently being shown at one-day events by Sierra Club chapters across the country to spur Americans to shift from coal to clean energy. Reinventing Power is shot in an anthological style and tells the stories of ten different clean energy advocates across the U.S. Viewers take a scenic tour from coast to coast to better understand the logistics of the clean energy movement. From the beautiful deep-sea wind farms on the Rhode Island coast to the solar farms in the California desert, the film provides a humanistic perspective of the benefits of clean energy. Audiences can see the cost effective, job creating, and environmentally friendly impact in action.

The film screening concludes with a discussion on local Sierra Club chapter efforts for clean energy. In Utah, energy giant Rocky Mountain Power monopolizes more than 80% of Utah’s electricity, of that more than 60% comes from burning coal. That means that Utah’s air is being polluted at rate of 31 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, clearly there is no time to waste.
