Maren Morris’ Girl: The World Tour featuring guest artist Cassadee Pope was a sweet sip of southern summer mixed with the perfect amount of playful pop. With the chill of the air conditioning and the hum of concert goers, the Union Events Center in Salt Lake City, Utah was vibrating with energy as the lights went down and the concert began. The venue, which is a renovated warehouse in the heart of downtown, was absolutely packed with concert goers. Everyone was shoulder to shoulder on the main floor and many more viewers leaned over the second story balcony from the 21+ area to watch.
When Cassadee Pope and her bandmates stepped onto the stage, the audience came roaring to life. Pope quickly explained that the concert for that evening would be a little different due to her drummer injuring himself earlier in the day and being unable to attend. Even with her drummer out due to a broken collar bone, Pope was all smiles as she quickly launched into a completely acoustic set. With simple backdrop and lighting, you were able to focus entirely on the music. Playing a good mix of music from her latest album Stages and older fan favorites, Pope quickly warmed the audience up and had everyone in a cheerful and friendly mood. She was very comfortable as she interacted with the audience and performed her setlist. Pope’s singing was earnest and stunning. The effortlessness and realness of her performance made her feel extremely tangible and relatable. When she and her band exited the stage, they were followed by enthusiastic cheering, even by those who did not know her music previous to the performance.
A brief, 30-minute break was taken at this point in order to reset the stage and run a second round of sound checks for Maren Morris and her band. The venue was very good about keeping up the energy by playing a wide variety of popular music. The crowd sang and danced along, promoting a festive communal environment.

Her backdrop featured a huge screen showing various films and pictures to highlight the meaning of her lyrics or provide bright kaleidoscopic effects. The concert’s sensory experience was heightened by cotton candy-scented bubbles that poured down from the ceiling, glowing iridescent under the lights and leaving the crowd absolutely enchanted. The concert was able to perfectly capture the sweet, playfulness of summertime in the south even in the cold of early March in Utah. Performing a mix from her new album Girl and her previous records, Morris was able to bring out her southern soul while also highlighting her advances into pop music. Maren Morris was an enormous vocal powerhouse. Her voice was well controlled, rolling through belting sections and lyrical riffs, while remaining strong through the whole hour and a half set. Her playful personality and unquestionable talent combined with the overall artistic presentation made for one of the best concerts I’ve seen.
No matter where in the world you are, the Maren Morris Girl: The World Tour featuring guest artist Cassadee Pope is an absolute must see. The way in which Pope and Morris own the space instantly, bringing the entire audience and venue to life is incredible. These two women are changing the game for female artists and country singers as a whole. I recommend grabbing a ticket as soon as possible, if the tour is coming anywhere near you, because it isn’t an experience you’ll want to miss.
